06/05/2008Disaster Relief for Earthquake Victims
The catastrophic 8.0 earthquake took place in Sichuan Province, southwest China on 5/12/2008 has claimed about 70,000 lives; it has also left 373,577 people injured, 18,230 missing, and more than 5 million homeless. More than 5,000 children are left without their parents and more than 4,000 elderly without caregivers.
Many of our AOMA (Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin) faculty members are native to Sichuan; fortunately, none of our faculty’s direct family members were tragically involved in this disaster. But we know many parents are still crying for their lost children and many orphans are still scared to close their eyes. We know tens of thousands of students no longer have a place to study. We know people there are sick, hungry, suffering and need our help right now. We’re organizing a charity event at White Crane South on June 5th (South Congress First Thursday) to raise money for the victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Sichuan.
