Great American Smokeout -Free Acupuncture all week
11/16/2009
In Austin, as many people are taking a smoke break, another group of people are getting acupuncture needles put into their ears.
"Acupuncture works to help stop the cravings smokers have for nicotine," said Robert Laguna, dean of students at the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin (AOMA). There have been a variety of controlled clinical trials about the use of acupuncture in addiction treatment. “There is strong evidence for the effect of the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol in improving patient outcomes in terms of program retention, reductions in cravings, anxiety, sleep disturbance and need for pharmaceuticals.” (Source: http://www.acudetox.com)
