Acupuncture for Depression

Are you suffering from depression?

Acupuncture can help! Depression consists of both physical and psychological symptoms that limit daily life, including but not limited to: fatigue; feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or pessimism; disturbed sleep; crying spells; poor memory and concentration; and stomach disturbances. When these feelings become overwhelming or last for long periods of time, they have a huge impact on one’s quality of life.

ACUPUNCTURE & TCM CAN HELP

Research suggests acupuncture has a positive and holistic effect on depressed patients, particularly when used in combination with psychotherapy and herbal treatments. A meta-analysis of thirteen quality randomized-controlled trials published in the Journal of Affective Disorders also found acupuncture combined with antidepressant therapy to be more effective than antidepressants alone. Compared to traditional Western medicine, acupuncture and Chinese medicine are less expensive. Acupuncture can also decrease reliance on prescription drugs, which can have negative side effects. However, acupuncture can also help support a patient’s body during pharmaceutical treatment by treating the unwanted side effects of medications, such as digestive upset, nausea, weight gain, low libido, and other sexual dysfunction.

ACUPUNCTURE IN A NUTSHELL

the most well-known traditional Chinese medical procedure, acupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles into the body at specific points to relieve pain or treat a disease. Acupuncture triggers spontaneous healing reactions in the body, and scientific studies have proven its efficacy for treating inflammation, pain, depression, and a host of other disorders.
