Acupuncture for Diabetes

Are you a diabetic?

TCM and acupuncture can help! 28.5 million men, women, and children have diabetes in America, a disease that affects the function of the pancreas and causes the body to not properly produce or use insulin, a hormone needed to convert foods into the energy needed for daily life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk for death is approximately twice that of persons of similar age without diabetes. Classic Chinese practitioners were writing about the symptoms of diabetes over 2,500 years ago in ancient medical texts.

ACUPUNCTURE & TCM CAN HELP

The Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine recently published a study showing that regular acupuncture treatments can help control the function of the pancreas and maintain blood sugar levels in diabetics. TCM diet therapy can also be an effective way to control blood sugar. Acupuncturists can recommend combinations of foods that help to regulate blood sugar and the internal heat created by the dysfunction of the pancreas. Other diabetes symptoms that acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine can address include fatigue, lethargy, unexplained weight loss, digestive issues, excessive thirst, urination and eating, poor wound healing, infections, irritability, blurry vision, and numbness in fingers and toes.

ACUPUNCTURE IN A NUTSHELL

Acupuncture, the most well-known traditional Chinese medical procedure, is the practice of inserting thin needles into the body at specific points to relieve pain or treat a disease. Acupuncture triggers spontaneous healing reactions in the body, and scientific studies have proven its efficacy for treating inflammation, pain, depression, and a host of other disorders.
