Acupuncture for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome

Are you suffering from PTSD?

Acupuncture can help! Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can occur after experiencing a traumatic event such as a near-death experience, personal injury, natural disaster, or the death of a loved one. Any situation causing emotional, physical, or mental trauma can result in PTSD. Common symptoms involve detachment, loss of emotional responsiveness, memory loss around trauma, recurrence of trauma in thoughts, dreams, or flashbacks, and exaggerated startle responses to normal events. With the use of traditional Chinese medicine, it can be easier for PTSD-affected individuals to regain their composure in daily life activities.

ACUPUNCTURE & TCM CAN HELP

Current PTSD treatments consist of pharmacological and behavior therapy. Acupuncture is a minimally-invasive, non-addictive treatment proven to be as effective. In one study involving more than 320 patients, almost all experienced improved sleep, lowered anxiety levels, and reduced frequency of headaches. The Department of Defense supports the use of acupuncture to treat PTSD and Veterans Affairs recommends acupuncture for anxiety, pain, and sleeplessness. Typically acupuncture for PTSD is administered by stimulating specific auricular points which are responsible for controlling brain areas that help control nervous functioning, as well as which mitigate stress levels.

ACUPUNCTURE IN A NUTSHELL

Acupuncture, the most well-known traditional Chinese medical procedure, is the practice of inserting thin needles into the body at specific points to relieve pain or treat a disease. Acupuncture triggers spontaneous healing reactions in the body, and scientific studies have proven its efficacy for treating inflammation, pain, depression, and a host of other disorders.
